Exploring Judaism - An Introduction to Mishnah and Talmud, part 2 of 2

After the Exodus from Egypt, Moses led the Israelites to Mount Sinai where, according to Jewish tradition, Moses received TWO sets of divine instruction – The Written Torah and the Oral Torah. The Oral Torah was memorized and transmitted orally until the Second Temple was destroyed.  Fearing that this information would eventually fade away, the early rabbis codified the Oral Torah, which we now know as Mishnah and Talmud.  In this Exploring Judaism session, we will separate myth from fact as we explore famous passages from the Oral Torah.  All are welcome and no prior knowledge necessary.

And there's still time to RSVP for Dalia's gala!

The Eichmann Trial by Deborah E. Lipstadt

The capture of SS Lieutenant Colonel Adolf Eichmann by Israeli agents in Argentina in May of 1960 and his subsequent trial in Jerusalem by an Israeli court electrified the world. The public debate it sparked on where, how, and by whom Nazi war criminals should be brought to justice, and the international media coverage of the trial itself, was a watershed moment in how the civilized world in general and Holocaust survivors in particular found the means to deal with the legacy of genocide on a scale that had never been seen before.

New Location for Shabbat and Hebrew School for January 8th-10th

A Happy, In-Home Shabbat Service!

Shabbat on Saturday, January 9th will be held in the home of Abby Pariser and Peter Gollon's house at 15 Eleanor Place in Huntington.

Torah study is at 10am with modified services following.

Hebrew school is still on, too.

Classes will be held at Dalia's beautiful home,  Please email her at marvndalia_AT_aol_DOTCOM for address and directions.

Its at time like these that I appreciate our small, close-knit community.  We're agile, and committed to our beautiful little spiritual home.  Once again, special thanks go out to all the volunteers who have shown up day after day, braving the cold and the grueling aggravations that come with this kind of "project."

Shalom,
Deborah
